Penang Straits and Oriental Museum
Located in the heart of George Town, the Straits & Oriental Museum now proudly occupies multiple heritage buildings at 66 Church Street and the adjoining 7 & 9 King Street buildings. As Penang’s sole ceramics museum, it houses a remarkable collection of historical ceramics, including artefacts salvaged from renowned shipwrecks found in Malaysian waters and exquisite creations from dynastic China, alongside a fine art gallery on its upper floors. The museum intricately weaves the narrative of how ceramics played a pivotal role in shaping Malaysia’s maritime history, offering visitors deep insight into the cultural and historical significance of these objects. Complementing the museum experience is a cosy café serving light food and coffee, providing a welcoming space for visitors to pause and reflect.
