NORTHERN
Located along the northern part of the mainland, Seberang Perai Utara combines transport connectivity, coastal attractions and quieter countryside surroundings, offering visitors a different pace from the island’s busier urban areas. The district stretches from Butterworth’s waterfront and transport terminals to the suburban and agricultural landscapes of Kepala Batas, Penaga and Teluk Air Tawar.
Butterworth serves as one of the mainland’s main transit gateways through Penang Sentral, which connects ferry, rail and interstate bus services linking Penang with other parts of Malaysia. Nearby attractions including the Butterworth Art Walk, Raja Uda’s local food scene and Tow Boo Kong Temple contribute to the area’s growing appeal among domestic travellers and visitors exploring the mainland side of Penang.
Further north, rural landscapes, fishing villages and coastal parks offer a more laid-back environment suited to family trips and countryside retreats. Bertam Resort & Water Park has also transformed the area into a growing leisure and staycation destination with integrated waterpark attractions, recreational facilities and family-oriented activities drawing visitors from across the region. Neighbouring destinations including Kampung Agong, Pantai Robina and the surrounding countryside continue to attract visitors seeking scenic views, local community experiences and outdoor activities away from the island’s more crowded tourist areas.
CENTRAL
Seberang Perai Tengah, the central district of the mainland, is one of Penang’s busiest commercial and urban areas, centred around Seberang Jaya, Perai and Bukit Mertajam. The area is well connected by major highways and transport routes, making it a convenient base for business travellers, families and visitors seeking easy access to shopping, dining and entertainment facilities across the mainland.
Large shopping malls, commercial centres and lifestyle hubs contribute to the district’s energetic atmosphere. Seberang Perai Tengah is also home to several of the mainland’s best-known cultural, nature and family-oriented attractions. Minor Basilica of St. Anne in Bukit Mertajam remains one of Malaysia’s most important pilgrimage sites. The Penang Bird Park is another popular attraction, drawing visitors throughout the year. Nature spots including Cherok Tokun Nature Reserve and Mengkuang Dam further provide opportunities for hiking, outdoor recreation and scenic escapes within the district.
SOUTHERN
Seberang Perai Selatan occupies the southern district of the mainland, encompassing Batu Kawan, Simpang Ampat, Nibong Tebal, Bukit Tambun and neighbouring townships connected by the Penang Second Bridge and major highway networks.
