MICE

Meetings, Incentives, Conferences and Exhibitions (MICE) form an important part of Penang's tourism and business events sector. Supported by strong international connectivity, state-of-the-art infrastructure, a well-established hospitality industry and a rich cultural environment, Penang continues to be recognised as one of Malaysia's leading destinations for meetings, exhibitions, corporate gatherings and industry conferences. As Malaysia's leading hub for advanced manufacturing, electronics, medical technology, life sciences and innovation, Penang has earned recognition as the "Silicon Valley of the East". More than 380 multinational corporations operate within the state, creating valuable opportunities for trade events, technical visits and business networking.

Penang's MICE sector is supported by purpose-built convention and exhibition venues, as well as hotels equipped with meeting and conference facilities. Key venues include the Setia SPICE Convention Centre, the Penang Waterfront Convention Centre and the PICCA Convention Centre @ Butterworth Arena. Complementing these facilities is a diverse range of accommodation options, from luxury international brands and beachfront resorts to boutique heritage hotels and business-class properties, enabling organisers to cater to events of varying scales, budgets and preferences. Penang also offers distinctive settings for gatherings, including heritage buildings, iconic landmarks and nature-oriented venues that provide memorable experiences for delegates and organisers alike.

Drawing on Penang's diverse tourism offerings, organisers can create incentive programmes that recognise achievement, encourage collaboration and leave a lasting impression on participants. Delegates can immerse themselves in heritage and cultural encounters, culinary discoveries, team-building initiatives, nature-based activities, golf and wellness retreats, community-focused programmes, as well as island and coastal experiences that showcase the many facets of Penang.

Penang supports the integration of environmental, social and governance (ESG) considerations into business events through initiatives that promote sustainability, community engagement and responsible practices. These may include conservation and heritage preservation initiatives, community-based tourism activities, educational programmes centred around the Penang Hill UNESCO Biosphere Reserve and other experiences that reflect Penang's commitment to sustainable development.

The close integration of business and leisure is another defining characteristic of Penang's MICE offering. Many delegates choose to extend their visit before or after an event to experience George Town's UNESCO World Heritage Site, renowned food culture, beaches and other leisure attractions. This combination of business facilities and leisure opportunities allows organisers to develop programmes that complement the event itself while giving delegates a deeper appreciation of Penang.

Serving as the state's official bureau for business events, the Penang Convention & Exhibition Bureau (PCEB) continues to provide support and resources for event organisers, meeting planners and industry partners.
