Aside from tangible heritage, Penang has a treasure trove of intangible heritage in the form of its artisans. Many of them are ageing and it is the last of their generation who hold skills that are truly valuable. In a mass-produced world, these artisans remain faithful to their craft, often painstakingly handmaking things like rattan furniture, traditional headwear and paper houses for the deceased.
