There is no shortage of exquisite wedding locations in Penang, from seaside once-in-a-lifetime and pristine heritage bungalows to tropical rainforest and a previously derelict theatre. We speak to the people who made dream weddings possible, from a videographer and a makeup artist to a bridal house representative and a renowned wedding photographer for their take on the dreamiest places to get married in Penang.
1. Boulder Valley Glamping and Event Place
Newly opened Boulder Valley Glamping and Event Place offers couples the opportunity to get married in a rainforest, either in the chapel glasshouse which can fit 100 guests or at the jungle glades with a giant fan giving cool breeze air. Soon-to-be-wed couples can also opt to book all 25 tents in the resort at an affordable rate at RM13,500 ++ with other complementaries.
For Priscilla Chen from Kuang Yee Bridal Collection, Boulder Valley Glamping and Event Place is perfect for those wanting to walk down the aisle in a tropical forest concept wedding. “Nowhere else carries the theme ‘When love meets nature’ as well as Boulder Valley Glamping and Event Place. Giant ferns and elephant ears intersperse with huge boulders stacked atop one another like giant pebbles turn the venue into an ethereal wedding venue. The size of the resort is big enough to host a wedding ceremony on the lawn, and not just do a pre-wedding photo shoot,” says Chen.

2. Lone Pine
While there are quite a number of lavish hotels dotting the coastline of Batu Feringghi, Lone Pine hotel takes the cake for couples searching for a beachside registration of marriage (ROM) and a garden big enough to host an exquisite wedding dinner. According to makeup artist Sabrina Hashim, the sound of the waves and the sea breeze set the tone to a romantic beachside ROM to be witnessed by close family and friends, while the casuarina trees on the big garden lend a hypnotising appeal when draped with LED lights.
“If getting married under the stars is your dream, then go for transparent Arabian canopies if you are hosting your wedding reception here,” she says.

3. David Brown's Restaurant & Tea Terrace, Penang Hill
Why settle for anything less than getting married 833 meters above sea level? Hidden between lush greenery of Penang Hill, David Brown's Restaurant & Tea Terrace is the perfect venue to create meaningful memories with your loved ones. The impressively well-manicured garden with an elegant pond stretching across the garden, sprinkled with lilies and dimly illuminated by a light-yellow tint in the evening sets the scene for an alfresco wedding reception.
According to videographer Low Goet Imm of Digimax Video Productions, David Brown's Restaurant & Tea Terrace on Penang Hill has a spectacular view of every significant landmark on the island, in addition to the cold weather and the gorgeous landscaped flowers.
“Be sure to plan ahead as the only logistic up the hill is either via the jeep track or the funicular train. But I assure you that it will be worth it,” she says.

4. The Majestic Theatre
Trend alert! If glitz, opulence and history are words that epitomise your dream wedding, then the Majestic Theatre will tick all of your wedding 'must-haves' boxes. Established in 1926, the Majestic Theatre was the first “talkies” theatre in the then Northern Malaya. Today, the iconic building has been refurbished to feature generous spaces, setting the stage for a perfect wedding venue, while retaining its old-world charm.
According to renowned wedding photographer Alex Tan, the monochromatic floor, the balcony, and the stage of this previously derelict theatre transport guests back to the roaring 20’s and 30’s, so perhaps a Gatsby or a Shanghai Tang-theme wedding works best for this venue.

5. St Giles Wembley
One of the most spectacular wedding venues in George Town, the St Giles Wembley hotel boasts a grand ballroom with contemporary, pillarless design and superior sound and lighting systems. This elegant venue caters to 1,200 guests who will dine under crystal chandeliers. It is the first hotel in Penang to offer a helipad at the roof-top, perfect for couples who wish to arrive and leave in style.
According to wedding photographer Alex Tan, the helipad makes iconic pre-wedding photography spot, too. “The iconic building Komtar is one of the most prominent landmarks in Penang. The 65-storey high rise tower makes a perfect co-star in any pre-wedding shots,” Tan says.
