The Penang Chinese New Year Celebration 2018 is a street event jointly organised by all Penangites in conjunction with Chinese New Year. It takes place in the heart of George Town on the 10th Day of the Lunar New Year. In addition to the unique festive atmosphere of Penang Chinese New Year, the event hopes to promote culture, traditional arts and intangible heritage through performances, exhibitions and workshops. There will be a number of heritage precincts opening their doors to present their authentic cultural gems including but not limited to tradition, crafts, food and languages. Admission to the event is free. The event focuses on two-way interactive and fun communications between visitors and the hosts of various performing stages within the designated enclave. The executive committees of selected Chinese clan temples, houses and associations located within the heritage enclave will open their doors to showcase their traditional cultural heritage of real gem via various forms of programmes, such as workshops, singing, food presentations, skilful art performances etc. to be a promising mega cultural showcase in the region. It is believe that this will help preserve Penang's unique traditional culture and heritage. The event will showcase various performing stages within the heritage enclave.
