The foundation stone of the Town Hall was laid in 1879 and the main building completed in 1883. It consisted of an assembly hall, a grand ballroom, and a library. An annex was added in 1890 while the porch and top floor added in 1903. The left wing - when cement plaster was introduced - as added in 1930.

Teow Hin Chan is one of George Town's last purveyors of traditional Chinese kitchenware which is all imported from different regions of China according to the region's speciality. Most of the traditional kitchenware in the shop is made entirely or partially by hand. In addition to kitchenware, the shop also stocks a range of porcelain Chinese idols.

The tour begins from George Town World Heritage Incorporated (GTWHI) with a brief introduction of the fascinating traders. The walkabout includes sites like Campbell Street Market, Jalan Masjid Kapitan Keling, Queen Street, Market Street, Beach Street and Armenian Street. The heritage discovery walk is based on first come first served basis with prior registration. A minimum of 10 participants to a maximum of 20 participants is required for each tour.
